1/28/1960"Studio Guard Pistol Whips TV Director"Los Angeles SentinelThe musical director of the Johnny Otis Show was unpacking his equipment in the parking lot when a security guard ordered him to move his car. The director, H. B. Barnum, said he would not have time, at which point the guard threw his pistol at Mr. Barnum. The weapon hit him in the head and then discharged, although nobody was shot. Mr. Barnum was treated at a nearby hospital.
10/2/1994"Little Indonesia' Taking Root Around Sunset Boulevard Hotel"Los Angeles TimesA history of the rise of a “Little Indonesia” in the 5000s block of Sunset, clustered around the Metropolitan Hotel (5825 Sunset), one of the only Indonesian-owned hotels in the United States. A rough estimate of the Indonesian-American population is 20,000 to 25,000; Los Angeles was the “economic linchpin of Indonesian American trade.” The immigrants are mostly Christian Indonesians of Chinese ethnicity and students or middle-class business people. About the increase in businesses catering to the Indonesian population, one man who immigrated in 1985 said, “It’s starting to feel like home again.”
