This film, spanning three generations of a Mexican-American family, was the first Hollywood film with an entire Latino cast playing Latino roles. The post-screening event held at the Hollywood Mercedes-Benz showroom (6353 Sunset Boulevard) was also a benefit celebrating the 20th anniversary of the National Latino Communication Center, a resource center that promoted Latino artists and culture on screen. One of the cast members of the film, Esai Morales, was quoted by the LA Times as saying, “It’s time that people got to know the Latino American family. We’re part of the big American family. We’ve been here long enough.” |
