1/28/1966 | "Art Tower Started As Vietnam Protest" | Los Angeles Times | Construction is underway at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard of a 65-foot-tall steel tower designed as a protest against the Vietnam War. The tower was sponsored by the Artists' Protest Committee, an international group of artists who were “against war and for peace,” and designed by New York sculptor Mark Di Suvero. The committee explained why the tower was being built: “It is no longer possible to work in peace.” |
