10/2/1994"Little Indonesia' Taking Root Around Sunset Boulevard Hotel"Los Angeles TimesA history of the rise of a “Little Indonesia” in the 5000s block of Sunset, clustered around the Metropolitan Hotel (5825 Sunset), one of the only Indonesian-owned hotels in the United States. A rough estimate of the Indonesian-American population is 20,000 to 25,000; Los Angeles was the “economic linchpin of Indonesian American trade.” The immigrants are mostly Christian Indonesians of Chinese ethnicity and students or middle-class business people. About the increase in businesses catering to the Indonesian population, one man who immigrated in 1985 said, “It’s starting to feel like home again.”
