8/25/1985 | "Club May Give Tower a New Life of Luxury" | Los Angeles Times | A group of British investors seek to transform the vacant, Art Deco-styled, Sunset Tower apartment buildings located at 8358 Sunset Boulevard into a luxury hotel. Constructed in 1931, granted landmark status on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and still a “thriving apartment house” even in 1980, the investors wanted to restore Sunset Tower to its former glory. While some tenants and councilmen had concerns about hotel saturation in West Hollywood, proposals for renovations and restorations were underway. |
